Zion's Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America sponsor many activities throughout the year. Many other activities are being planned. Check back for more details throughout the year.
Although our Craft Circle isn't formalized, we usually support a charity by using our talents in some way. One year, we made blankets for infants through Touching Little Lives. Another time, we made blankets again, but this time they were given to children in the foster care system. We have many talented crafters and are always looking for groups that can benefit from our sewing, quilting, knitting, cracheting or scrapbooking.
Reaching in for the Holy Spirit, reaching up for God's grace, reaching out with Christ's love.
Zion's members support many organizations and ministries in West Jefferson, Madison County, Columbus, Ohio, the United States and the World. These are just a few:
Good Samaritan Fund: Many West Jefferson congregations support the Good Samaritan Fund financially. Money is used to help residents and passsers-through with gas, food, utility bills
Good Samaritan Food Pantry: Housed in the basement of West Jefferson United Methodist Church, the food pantry provides much need food for those within West Jefferson who need food. Once a month, Zion members pack the boxes which are given to families in need.
H.E.L.P. House: H.E.L.P. House exists to serve children, families, and individuals in need by providing food, clothing, shelter, emergency assistance and God's love. Once a quarter, Zion's members prepair a meal for those getting support from H.E.L.P. House in London, Ohio.
Adopt-A-Family: Every Christmas, Zion's members adopt a family within the community to provide Christmas gifts and a holiday meal that the family otherwise would not have. We also collect mittens, gloves and hats. Many members knit or crochet the items themselves.
Faith Mission: Faith Mission is a 24-hour emergency shelter, serving up to 220 men and 46 women at three locations; 325 E. Long St., 151 N. 6th St. and 599 E. 8th Ave. in Columbus. Faith Mission is the only organization in Franklin County able to serve three meals a day, every day of the year. Our mission is to continue to create a better world by serving people in need. Faith Mission is one of the ministries supported by Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio.
Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio: Everyday, Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio (LSS) helps thousands of people in need throughout 50 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of hunger, housing, healing and hope.
Touching Little Lives: The mission of Touching Little Lives is to make and distribute free of charge handmade items to preemie and needy newborns in Ohio. Many crafters in the congregation have crocheted, knitted and sewn blankets, booties and layettes for Touching Little Lives.
My Very Own Blanket: My Very Own Blanket is an organization of volunteers dedicated to helping children in foster care feel valued and comforted. We connect diverse people, community groups, businesses and services as we make and deliver personalized blankets and other personal items to children in foster care.
